A new attraction for 2026 is the Sandtoft & District Railway!
The official opening will be on Saturday 17th October. Until then we’ll be running a train on open days when staffing permits.
The Railway is a 7.25 inch gauge line running from the Central Station (behind the main depot building) to the north west corner of the Museum site. The line will be extended to the Belton Road end of the Museum as resources permit.
The track, locomotives and some of the rolling stock came from the Ise Valley Railway in Northamptonshire and were kindly donated to the Museum by its owner, Professor Francis Terry, in 2020. The track has been laid entirely by the Museum’s volunteers who’ve also built a new passenger carriage, with 2 more to follow.
The railway’s fleet currently consists of 3 locomotives and 3 passenger carriages. There are also 8 freight or works wagons which are needed to maintain the line. Click on the photos for downloadable information on the fleet:
