Period Shop Window Displays

Our "Axholme Stores" shop windows display a number of items that you would have been able to buy during the 1950s and 1960s. These range from cameras, radios, televisions and tape recorders, through kitchen utensils and household items, to toys and knitting patterns! Many of these are priced (in pre-decimalisation £-s-d of course), so be prepared for a shock as to how much various things were. Some items (mainly technological) have become cheaper, though, in real terms due to advances in technology. Bear in mind when you are working out the difference that earnings then were about 1/40th of what they are now.
