What is the Trolleybus Driving Experience and what does it cost?
The Trolleybus Driving Experience is a unique chance to get behind the wheel
of a vintage British trolleybus. The day will begin with introductions over
tea/coffee, followed by a safety briefing, theory session, examination of
the overhead system and introduction to your trolleybus along with
familiarisation of conducting procedures. Then, after a buffet lunch, it is
out onto our trolleybus circuit for an afternoon driving with one of our
experienced instructors. The day ends with a summary session, tea/coffee and
presentation of your Driving Certificates. The cost also includes a buffet

Which trolleybuses can I drive?
The trolleybus used will be a British 2-axle double-decker. The specific vehicle
used each day will depend on availability and it is the decision of the
experienced instructor in charge.
Will the Museum be open to the public?
No. The Trolleybus Driving Experience courses will take place on Mondays during
the summer months. The Museum is closed to the public at these times. You
are, however, able to bring guests and additional visitors; please see below
for details.
Will I be a qualified trolleybus driver at the end of the day?
No. The aim on the day is to bring you up to a standard where you can complete a basic service run on our overhead circuit. To be a fully fledged trolleybus driver on one of our opendays requires further training. Before entering the driving school at The Museum, members must have first completed at least one full season as a trained trolleybus conductor.
Can I bring guests?
Yes you can. Included in the price of your Trolleybus Driving Experience is one
guest, who also gets a buffet lunch. Additional guests are welcome too.
However, please be aware that as the Museum is not open to the public not
all areas and facilities of the Museum will be open. Additional guests are
charged at £4.00 per person including buffet lunch. All guests are able to
ride on the trolleybus whilst you are driving.
Is advance booking required?
Yes. In order to make best use of resources and plan our catering advance booking
is essential. If insufficient bookings are received The Trolleybus Museum
may cancel a course day and offer an alternative date or a full refund.
